Join the tradition as teams compete to serve the best carne asada and discada in town! Taste, vote, and help crown the ultimate champion. But the fun doesn’t stop there—experience the thrill of Charreada y Jaripeo (Mexican rodeo and bull riding), watch stunning Escaramuzas (traditional Mexican horseback riding), enjoy vibrant folkloric dance, and dance along to live music all day. The whole family can join in—kids will love the petting zoo and interactive activities, while everyone can enjoy delicious food and drinks to fuel the excitement!

Register and find out!  There are two categories: Best Carne Asada and Best Discada.  Both categories have a Grand and Reserve Champions award.  Carne Asada and Discada will be judged on 3 categories: Taste, Appearance, and Texture and voted for by both the attendees and judges.

COMPETITION FAQ:

How much will I have to pay to participate?
$250 per team or $375 if you'd like an ice chest with beer and water

Are outside beverages allowed?
No alcoholic beverages are allowed to be brought in per TABC Guidelines.  Alcoholic beverages can be purchased at the event or you can choose the $375 level, which includes an ice chest of beer and water for your team.

How many people per team?
2-6 people. Keep in mind you need one person serving, and we recommend at least 2 people cooking.

What do I need as a contestant?
You'll need to bring your own grill or disco, charcoal (if needed), an empty cooler to store your protein and any tools you may need to cook like tongs, cutting boards, knives, spoons, molcajete, etc., and also any rags and lighter to light up your grills.

What will be provided?
All food has to be supplied by us per metro health requirements. We will also provide a 10x10 tent, 2 tables, one black linen, ice, mesquite firewood, gloves, and 4oz serving plates.

How will I serve my food?
You'll be serving approx 1000 2-4oz samples of your dishes. The idea is to constantly be preparing food for everyone to enjoy through the event from start to finish. Remember the guests will be voting so the more people that try your food the more chances you have of winning.

Judges will be going to your booth to try your dishes as well.

Will there be a team meeting?
Yes, we will schedule a meeting with you and your team prior to the event to answer all questions and go over logistics and pantry item requests.

How are the logistics day of?
Contestants are expected to arrive no earlier than 9am with all their equipment to start prepping their seasonings, marinades, salsas or any topping that will make your dish stand out. There will be a pantry with all your requested ingredients with a first come first serve basis. When you arrive you must pick up your items and immediately store them in an ice chest per metro health requirements. All food and ingredients used must be the ones provided by us; no outside food is allowed.

Do we have to bring charcoal or propane tanks?
We will provide mesquite firewood but if you want or need charcoal or propane tanks you must bring your own.

Come prepared to be cooking all day, no one is allowed to load out until after 7:30pm.
